Body Dysmorphic Disorder

The SRP Committee invites Dr Oliver Suendermann to run a half day workshop on Body Dysmorphic Disorder for SRP members! SRP members get special rates.

Appearance matters and most people have some concern about the way they look. However, for people with Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) the concerns they have about their appearance can take over their lives. BDD is an under-reported and under-recognised highly distressing condition, that often goes unnoticed for many years, and can be complex to work with.

This half-day workshop gives an overview of BDD and teaches skills in the identification, assessment, diagnosis and formulation of BDD, and also covers basic engagement and intervention strategies. There will be a focus on common challenges and pitfalls in this work. The workshop will be interactive involving role-plays and exercises.

The Facilitator:

Dr Oliver Suendermann (PhD, DClinPsy)

Dr Suendermann is a Clinical Psychologist and recently joined the National University of Singapore as the new manager of the Clinical and Health Psychology Centre. His interests are in researching and treating Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), particularly in complex presentations and novel treatments of these disorders. Dr Suendermann has previously completed a PhD and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry at the Maudsley, King’s College London, and prior to joining NUS, worked in various specialist clinics for BDD and OCD in the U.K.
